A Canadian artist has been terminated after drawing this Trump cartoon

Canadian artist and political cartoonist drew this for Wednesday June 26th, playing on Trump’s two big hobbies: barring immigrants and playing golf.

The cartoon went viral on Twitter and other social media platforms.

Two days later he was told his longstanding contract would not be renewed and the Canadian company employing him, Brunswick News Inc., would no longer publish his work in any of the four newspapers it owned.

On Twitter, Brunswick News Inc. denied the termination had anything to do with the cartoon.

But Wes Tyrell, who is president of the Association of Canadian Cartoonists, wrote on Facebook yesterday:

“Although he has stated there was no reason given for his firing, the timing was no coincidence. Michael told me once that not only were the J.D. Irving owned New Brunswick newspapers challenging to work for, but there were a series of taboo subjects he could not touch.

“One of these taboo subjects was Donald Trump.”
