A new poll has found that the GOP is not only failing miserably in attracting Latin-American voters, but even repelling Republicans.
Only around one-in-five Latinos (21%) said they would probably or definitely vote for Trump. Only 13% saying they “definitely” would, according to Latino Decisions.
An overwhelming majority — almost eight-in-ten — said they are strongly or somewhat “frustrated with how Trump and his allies treat immigrants and Latinos”.
Key point:
Of the 37% of Latinos had earlier voted Republican, just 16% agreed they liked today’s Republican Party, NBC reported.
Of self-identified Republicans, only half said they were certain they would vote for Trump.
Clarissa Martinez-De-Castro, UnidosUS: “Our poll shows that the vast majority of Latino voters are worried that things will get worse for them, and for immigrants, if Trump is re-elected.”
In 2018, Latinx Americans accounted for 12.8% of all eligible voters, a new high. 27% of Latinos said they were voting in a midterm for the first time, compared with 18% of black voters and 12% of white voters, according to PEW.
