The tumultuous relationship between President Trump and his National Security Advisor, John Bolton, came to a head on Tuesday when Trump announced that Bolton’s “services” were “no longer needed.”
….I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week.

Only it appears that Bolton didn’t realize he was getting the boot until finding out on Twitter with the rest of the country:
I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, "Let's talk about it tomorrow."

Which had him rapidly firing off text messages to Fox News Hosts:

It is no secret that things haven’t been rosy between the two. Just last week, Bolton was excluded from the Taliban peace plan meetings.
Plus, Trump undermined Bolton’s work in the Ukraine by contradicting the National Security advisor’s assurances to the country’s leaders that aid from the US would intensify.
The Trump administration has been hinting that things were going sour between the two for a while, and apparently Bolton almost didn’t get the job because of his mustache.
Reminder Trump initially passed on John Bolton for cabinet positions because he didn't like his mustache.
