When Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke recently said, “Hell yes, we’re going to take away your AR-15,” - many Republicans thought they had the perfect attack line.

O’Rourke’s plan for an assault-weapons buyback programme was immediately panned as being wildly unpopular and a liability for Democrats.

Maybe not.

Trump’s favorite pollster, Scott Rasmussen, who consistently gives the Presidents his best approval ratings, decided to poll the issue. He was shocked by his findings.

The Rassmussen poll found that in fact a majority of Americans seem to agree with O’Rourke.

51% of the polled voters say they are in favor of a semi-automatic weapon buyback program. Only 36% of people were in hard opposition.

When broken along party lines, Democrats come in at 73% in favor, independents are 43% in favor.

Only half of Republican voters were against a buyback program.

On MSNBC on Thursday night, CNN’s Chris Cuomo urged Trump to stop listening to the “chirping” around him and start listening to what the American people are clearly saying.
