With AOC endorsement, Bernie Sanders is backed by a 3/4 of the "Squad".

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believes that Bernie Sanders will be the best candidate to take on President Trump in the 2020 presidential election. She will be joining three other progressive women who have announced their full support of Sanders’ campaign.

Representative Ilham Omar of Minnesota announced her endorsement on Tuesday evening and AOC is set to announce her endorsement at a rally with the Vermont Senator, this weekend-the first campaign event since his heart attack, earlier in the month.

“The surprise endorsements are a political coup for Sanders, 78, who has been fading in the polls and faced growing questions about his age and health. Before Tuesday’s Democratic debate, he had been sidelined from the campaign trail for two weeks by a heart attack.”

CNN politics reporter Greg Krieg revealed that congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib will also be endorsing Sanders in New York on Saturday. The “Bernie’s Back” Saturday rally will be held in Queens, near Ocasio-Cortez’ congressional district and hometown, according to The Washington Post.

AOC, Omar, and Tlaib are three of the four freshman representatives known as the “Squad”. The fourth member, Ayanna Pressley, has been a known advocate of Sanders but it’s not immediately clear what she plans to do.

In recent headlines, over the summer, the “Squad” representatives were attacked by Trump. He accused them of being anti-American, despite the fact that all four women are American citizens and each was born in the U.S.-excluding Ilham Omar.

On Tuesday evening, Bernie Sanders teased at the Democratic Debate that he would have a “special guest” over the weekend, at the New York rally. Though never confirmed by either Sanders or AOC, sources are stating that Americans should be prepared for the endorsement which should significantly improve his ratings.

After Sanders’ recent heart attack and fight against Elizabeth Warren, having the progressive and outspoken “Squad” backing him will likely help him in the polls. His history with AOC from the 2016 campaign and 2018 primary are to thank for the upcoming endorsement.

AOC’s endorsement does come as a surprise to some, as she has sided with Warren on a variety of issues within the last few months. Regardless of the most recent Democratic endorsement, what matters is that more progressive representatives are taking the necessary steps to win the fight against President Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
