Trump has repeatedly used the stock market as a barometer for how the U.S. economy is doing.

He has tweeted about the stock market repeatedly. In fact, just a few weeks ago he tweeted: “Broke all time Stock Market Record again today. 135 times since my 2016 Election Win. Thank you!”

What he won’t say is that the stock market did better under President Obama than it has under his watch.

The reality

From the inauguration to the end of Year 3, the S&P 500 stock market, the broadest barometer of U.S. companies, jumped 42% under President Trump. Under President Obama, it was up 56.2% over the same time period.

The figures were released after 2019’s final day of trading by Axios.

Reality check: U.S. stocks did better under Obama than under Trump so far 1

As you can see, the data shows companies even did better under George Bush Sr. compared to President Trump. And he just about edged Bill Clinton.

Don’t expect the President to tweet anything about that though.
