A top GOP leader in New York state was charged with driving while intoxicated, just a week after he warned New Yorkers not to drink and drive during the holidays.

Brian Kolb, the New York Assembly GOP leader, was arrested near his home in his state-issued vehicle.

Hypocrisy

On Christmas Eve, the local newspaper the Daily Messenger published a column by Kolb warning against driving under the influence of alcohol, especially during the holiday season.

He also pointed out that December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month.

“Many of our holiday traditions, especially our New Year’s Eve celebrations, involve indulging in spirits. Done safely, and in moderation, these can be wonderful holiday experiences. However, tragedy can be only one bad decision away.”

Turns out Kolb was willing to dish out advice but unwilling to take his own.

Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor called for him to step down.

According to NBC News, Kolb has expressed regret. “This was a terrible lapse in judgment, one I have urged others not to make, and I take full responsibility for it,” he said in a brief written statement.
