After almost four years of neglect, corruption, and trying to trade the island for Greenland, Trump has decided to gaslight everyone by insisting that he does too care about what happens to Puerto Rico.

Like an absent parent, Trump is trying to buy the support of Puerto Rican people, with $13 billion in aid meant to rebuild the island’s damaged power grid. Of course, when asked why he waited until 46 days before the election, Trump replied, “We’ve been working on it for a long time.”

Twitter users were quick to point out that Trump has also been working on denying aid to Puerto Rico for an equally long time.

HUD admitted It

In 2019, two Trump appointees from the Department of Housing and Urban Development admitted that they had purposefully missed a deadline, which meant Puerto Rico didn’t get much needed hurricane relief.

The agency had until Sept 4th to issue funding notices to 18 states and territories. HUD managed to get them all done, except for Puerto Rico. Representative David Price (D-NC) said HUD failed “to comply with the law.”

Trump hasn’t been their friend

A deal in 2019 that would have given Puerto Rico $12 billion in Medicaid funding sent Trump into a tizzy, according to three unnamed sources in Politico. The president personally intervened to make sure that the budget for Puerto Rico was slashed in half. The White House claimed that the original budget was not “responsible.”

3,000 people died

Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico, told CNN, “3,000 Puerto Ricans did not open their eyes this morning because this racist man did not have it within him to do his job. So get out of the way, President Trump, and let the people that can do the job get the job done.”

Trump’s sudden change of heart isn’t fooling anyone.
