‘Giggles about the ravages of COVID’: Twitter implodes over McConnell’s crassness in McGrath debate

Mitch McConnell has been the Senate Majority Leader for four years. He has also been the senator from Kentucky for 36 years. So if anyone shares some of the blame for the misfortunes suffered by the state, it would be him.

In a debate with Democratic challenger Amy McGrath, McConnell seemed to find the plight of America, and Kentucky, amusing. McGrath confronted the senator about the 215,000 COVID-19 deaths in the country and the Senate’s inability to pass legislation to help the people recover. “The House passed a bill in May and this Senate went on vacation,” she said.

But instead of giving her a actual response, McConnell started laughing. McGrath said, “I mean, you just don’t do that. You negotiate. Senator, it is a national crisis, you knew that the coronavirus wasn’t gonna end at the end of July. We knew that.” But McConnell wouldn’t stop laughing, as if to downplay or lessen the significance of what McGrath was saying.

Twitter became enraged at McConnell but also took time to sharpen the weapons of words used against him.

Seems like McConnell’s laugh might be the spookiest thing some Twitter users have seen all year.

McConnell introduced a COVID-19 bill no later than 24 hours after the debate. But that didn’t save him, it only implicated him further.
