‘Trust the process’: Stacey Abrams tells Georgians to stay calm and VOTE

Stacey Abrams is laser focussed on the Senate runoff elections in Georgia. Now that Donald Trump’s call to the Georgia secretary of state is out there for all to hear, the US is embroiled in its zillionth argument over whether the president broke the law.

But Abrams is singing another familiar tune: just vote, and make sure all of your friends and family cast their ballots as well.

While Trump attempts to suppress millions of  Georgia votes to cheat his way into a second term, Stacey Abrams knows exactly what to do — keep calm and vote on.

It ain’t over in Georgia, and Biden’s success hangs on the US Senate runoff

The ability of President Joe Biden to do the work he plans is in the hands of the US Senate. If both Democratic candidates, Jon Ossoff and Rev Dr. Raphael Warnock, win seats in the US Senate in the Georgia runoff, that will bring the tally of senators to 50-50, even numbers for both parties. Vice President Kamala Harris would cast a deciding vote to break a tie. This runoff is the only election that Stacey Abrams is thinking about right now.

If even one of the Republicans is elected to represent Georgia, Mitch McConnell will be in charge of the Senate again. More of McConnell blocking bills, playing puppet master for Supreme Court nominees, handing money to the rich, and snapping the purse shut when it comes to helping regular, hard-working Americans.

The presidential election is OVER

Trump’s latest long-shot bid to reverse a free and fair election by crushing American democracy came in the form of an hour-long call which was released by the Washington Post. Amidst a flurry of numbers he pulled out of…the air, the soon-to-be-ex-president made his message clear:

I just want to find 11,780 votes.

But the Presidential election was decided two months ago, by American voters. Stacey Abrams will not enter the fray over Trump’s latest trick — she is all about the Georgia runoff. “We need leaders who will actually show up to do their jobs.”

Unlike our one-term president, Stacey Abrams knows exactly how to act after the polls close. Even Trump’s Department of Homeland Security called the 2020 presidential election “the most secure in American history.” And Abrams knows that election workers are fully capable of delivering the same secure process in the Georgia runoff. All we have to do is be patient while they do their job.

How did Stacey Abrams get to be a voting authority?

After over a decade in the Georgia State House of Representatives, Stacey Abrams ran for Governor of Georgia. But she lost, in an election marred by credible allegations of voter fraud. Then State Attorney General Brian Kemp won the election. Now-Governor Kemp had been in the unique position of enforcing what CNN calls, “some of the nation’s most restrictive voting laws” during his own election. Handy.

Instead of pouting her way around the golf course, Abrams founded Fair Fight, an organization that is dedicated to protecting voting rights. She wrote a book on voter suppression and co-produced a documentary called “All In: the Fight for Democracy.”

The result? For the first time since 1992, Georgia voters were empowered to deliver their electors for a Democratic candidate. Joe Biden received more than 2.4 million votes in Georgia alone.

So when Stacey Abrams says keep calm and vote on, that’s exactly what we should do.
