Americans are falling into the warm embrace of fascism

The Republican party is dead. In its place is a mass movement led by despots motivated by avarice and with depraved indifference for the American people. Oh, and money, of course, money.

I used to think Trump was an aberration and that the Republican party would fess up to its mistake in supporting him. Damn, was I wrong. Trump IS the Republican party. And after the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, I think we can all agree that the people who make up the GOP have zero interest in governing.

Our political system is a mess. And, we musn’t rejoice in the fact that the Republican party has become a shadow of itself. We should be terrified that more and more Americans are falling into the warm embrace of fascism and electing officials who promise to make America great again at the expense of our collective soul.

Progressives have not done the best job at messaging. On the other hand, the right-wing has directed a firehose of falsehoods at the masses, and we’ve only responded with a squirt gun of truth. Of course, if you’re not concerned with facts, it’s easy to spin a yarn about how Democrats are a bunch of socialists who want us all to live in communes. We can’t compete with that. But it is imperative that from now on we surround our audiences with massive amounts of fact-based content 24/7 day in and day out, or this “new” Republican party will win the messaging battles.

Don’t forget that 10 million more people voted for Trump in 2020 than in 2016. So if you think we can cover our ears and pretend everything is okay, then we’ve already lost the battle. The war has only just begun, and we’re already in brutal combat. But we can win.

Persuasion takes time and money. And it will take all of us to build an army and fight back. There is no other way.

We will get through this together.
