Proof that not all older Americans are drinking Trump’s MAGA Koolaid.

Receiving his crowdsourced anti-racist video reference gives us hope.  We published yesterday an article ” No child is born a racist, the hate to “others” must be taught, here is how…” discussing a video showing a child’s reaction to the infamous “Sent Her Home” chant during the last Trump’s rally in North Carolina. This viral video demonstrates how racism is taught at Trump rallies.

As a result we got flooded by the messages from clearly older Americans reminding us about the Hollywood classic song “You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught” from the SOUTH PACIFIC musical made in 1958. (Full Lyrics below)

The mythical days when America was great, right? Thank you, all the seniors for reminding us the spirit of this song…

You’ve got to be taught
Before it’s too late
Before you are six
Or seven
Or eight
To hate all the people
Your relatives hate

This Rodgers & Hammerstein® American classic, was inspired by a collection of short stories from World War II, Mitzi Gaynor plays Ensign Nellie Forbush, an American woman who falls in love with a Frenchman, Emile De Becque (Rossano Brazzi) while stationed as a navy nurse in the South Pacific. Across the island we see new love take hold in Lt. Joseph Cable (John Kerr) and a Tonkinese woman named Liat (France Nuyen), who are introduced by Liat’s mother Bloody Mary (Juanita Hall), a local island trader. These two couples are constantly put to the test as their cultures clash under the turmoil of World War II.

FULL LYRICS:
You’ve got to be taught
To hate
And fear
You’ve got to be taught
From year
To year
Its got to
Be drummed in your dear little ear
You’ve got to
Be carefully
Taught
You’ve got to be taught
To be
Afraid
Of people
Who’s eyes are oddly made
And people who’s skin is a different shade
You’ve got to
Be carefuly
Taught
You’ve got to be taught
Before it’s too late
Before you are six
Or seven
Or eight
To hate all the people
Your relatives hate
You’ve got to
Be carefully taught
You’ve got to
Be carefully taught
Emile De Beque -
This is just the kind of ugliness I was running away from
It has followed my all this way
All these years
And now it has found me
I was cheated before
And i’m cheated again
By a mean little world
Full of mean little men
And the one chance for me
Is this life I know best
To be here on an island
And to hell with
The rest
I’ll cling
To this island
Like a tree or a stone
I’ll cling to this island and be free
And
Alone
