Trump in New Mexico: 'Who do you like more, the country or the Hispanics?'

At a Monday night campaign rally in New Mexico, Trump attempted to gain support from the state’s Latinx population. An uphill battle considering the Pew Research Center shows he has a 79% disapproval rating with voters in that demographic.

It is unlikely that his comments at the rally have gained him any ground as they would be considered pretty racist by just about everyone. In this clip, you can watch him ask CNN’s Steve Cortes, a long-time Trump supporter, who he likes more “the country or Hispanics?”

He didn’t stop there, however.

Trump went on to claim that Latinx people better understand the drug problem which is why they are pro-wall:

“And at the center of America’s drug crisis, this is where the Hispanics know it better than anybody, people said, ‘Oh, the Hispanics won’t like a wall.’ I said, ‘I think they are going to love it. They won’t like border security.’ I think they’re going to love.’ You know why? Because you understand it better than other people, but at the whole center of this crisis is the drugs that are pouring in, and you understand that when other people don’t understand it.”

He followed up that rambling with a few other key phrases such as “Nobody loves the Hispanics more” and “We love our Hispanics, get out and vote.”

Many Twitter users are quick to point out that his comments feel a bit inauthentic…
