It is no surprise that the majority of Democratic lawmakers are coming out in support of the impeachment inquiry.
Are Republicans waking up and smelling the coffee too?
On Thursday, two Republican governors added their names to the list of those in support of the investigation. Gov. Phill Scott (R-VT) and Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA) have both stated that they are in favor of the proceedings.
Gov. Scott called the impeachment inquiry “appropriate” in a statement to the Washington Post:
“I think we have much more to learn and need to understand all the facts as this serious allegation is considered. Congress has a solemn responsibility to every American to fulfill its role in our government system of checks and balances.
Gov. Baker made his statement to reporters at a Thursday event:
“It’s a deeply disturbing situation and circumstance and I think the proper role and responsibility for Congress at this point is to investigate it and get to the bottom of it.”
While the two governors won’t have any voice in the actual impeachment inquiry, there are a few Republicans in the Senate that share their views.
Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) said “there’s obviously a lot that’s very troubling” about the Ukraine phone call.
Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) called the whole situation “deeply troubling.”
As the inquiry moves forward the dam could very well break.
