A right-wing media outlet polled every Republican senator asking where they stand on kicking Trump out of office. Only seven of them were willing to put their neck (and their name) out for Trump.
The Daily Caller reports that they called all 53 Republican senators and asked whether they would “rule out” removing Trump from office. Apparently Trump can’t count on the GOP to have his back because only seven of those called were willing to go all in for Trump. Those seven were:
- Cindy Hyde-Smith (MS)
- Thom Tillis (NC)
- Jim Inhofe (OK)
- Roger Wicker (MS)
- Rob Portman (OH)
- Jerry Moran (KS)
- Mike Rounds (SD)
Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) decided to keep her feelings about whether or not impeachment is necessary to herself saying,
“I am amazed that some of my colleagues have already made up their minds one way or the other before all the evidence is in and before the facts are known.”
Collins cites the fact that the Senate is supposed to act as impartial jurors as her reasoning for keeping her lips sealed. It is a sentiment shared by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY):
“We’re jurors. We can push as hard as we can to get all the facts out but … we should wait until we see all the facts to make a determination.”
Some of those Trump has been able to count on in the past refused to give any new comment when the Daily Caller called. Most notable in that group is Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Even Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has said he would be “open-minded” about impeachment.
It looks like Team Trump is starting to waver a bit in their support.
