Late-night political comics had a field day on day one of President Trump’s historic impeachment proceedings.

On The Daily Show, Trevor Noah surgically picked apart the hearings.

While William Taylor, Acting U.S. ambassador to Ukraine called Trump’s actions “Unexplainable, illogical, crazy,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) argued that none of this testimony should even count because “it was all a game of telephone.” That’s right, a “game.”

But it all backfired when he turned the focus to the whistleblower saying, “There is one witness they won’t bring in front of us, the American people – that’s the guy who started it all.”

Rep. Peter Welch (D - Intelligence Committee) had a slam-drunk waiting in response: “I’d be glad to have the person who started it all to come in and testify.  President Trump is welcome to take a seat right there.”

Stephen Colbert’s episode was rightly dubbed “A very special episode of Don and the Giant Impeach.” The Late Show host couldn’t contain his joy at what he called a day “We’ve been praying for since the beginning of the Trump presidency: the end of the Trump presidency.”

During Steve Colbert’s monologue on LSSC, Colbert focused on the newest reveal. Ambassador  Taylor told the committee that a staffer heard Trump asking his U.S. ambassador to the European Union about “the investigations”.   This phone conversation between Trump and Sondland personally ties Trump to the scheme to withhold aid and support to Ukraine.  “That’s like, they had a picture of Nixon breaking into Watergate,” Colbert quipped.
