Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) had some harsh words for Trump during a speech given at the California Democratic Party State Convention.
“We are a majority in one House, and we will become a majority in the other, and we will send that charlatan in the White House back to the golden throne he came from,” he declared. The House Intelligence Committee Chairman, who is one of the leaders of the impeachment inquiry, warned about the dangers of allowing Trump to continue. He said, “There is nothing more dangerous than an unethical president who believes he is above the law.”
Schiff continued, “The most grave threat to the life and health of our democracy comes from within, from a president without ethical compass, without an understanding of or devotion to our Constitution and the beautiful series of checks and balances it established.”
In the past week, the impeachment inquiry has had its first hearings. Witnesses included U.S. diplomat to Ukraine William Taylor, Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent, and former U.S. Ambassador to the Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch.
In the upcoming week, more hearings are scheduled. They include a national security official who overheard Trump’s phone call with the Ukrainian president, a former envoy who arranged a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Trump, and the U.S. Ambassador to the E.U. Gordon Sondland.
