In a bizarre discussion with reporters and government officials on Monday, Trump once again claimed “I hate deficits” adding that under his watch the US deficit was coming down.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
The US ‘budget deficit’ is the difference between yearly expenses and revenue. The US ‘national debt’ is the total amount of debt the government has accumulated.
In late October, The Treasury Department admitted the US budget deficit had ballooned to nearly a TRILLION dollars a year.
Why? Directly as a result of Trump’s tax-cuts, which have reduced revenue, and because of huge spending increases on defense.
Yet the President keeps falsely claiming he hates deficits.
Under trump the US Deficit ballooned to 984 billion but sure he hates deficits. https://t.co/FQLil0jrVN
