‘A warning sign for the GOP’: Two new polls reveal Trump’s misogyny could cost him the election

A new poll from the battleground state of Michigan has found that just over a quarter of women voters in the state would vote for Trump, compared to nearly double for the Democratic nominee.

The poll also found that in mid-western states, women voters are far less likely to support Trump than a Democrat, according to MLive.

Why this matters

It has long been remarked that Trump faces an uphill battle with women voters. In the 2018 mid-term elections women voters handed Democrats a landslide victory.

A second poll published by Axios on Wednesday found that 39% of women voters who leaned Democrat were more involved in the election. But just 23% of Republican women were as involved—illustrating a massive enthusiasm gap.

“That’s a warning sign for the GOP,” says Axios, “which has been losing female voters to the Democratic Party at significant rates over the last few cycles.”

The enthusiasm gap among women puts Trump underwater in important states that he won in 2016.

He won Michigan by a margin of just over 10,00 votes out of nearly 5 million: a very narrow 0.23% margin of victory.
