British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell is in custody and faces charges for aiding the late American financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in child sex trafficking from 1994-1997.

The FBI arrested Maxwell Thursday morning in Bradford, New Hampshire. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York hosted a press conference on Thursday at 12 p.m. EST.

According to the FBI, Maxwell had both a personal and professional relationship with Epstein who hanged himself on Aug.19, 2019 at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. She was among his closest confidants. Maxwell’s role was helping Epstein exploit girls who were as young as 14 years old. “Maxwell played a critical role in this abuse,” acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said during the press conference.
