‘Most corrupt president in history’: GOP group blasts Trump after Roger Stone pardon and Twitter implodes

Once again, Trump has made headlines around the world — for all the wrong reasons. The President of the United States spared Roger Stone from prison.

Trump commuted Stone’s sentence and was met with global outrage. Stone was found guilty of seven felonies including lying to Congress, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice. He joins the already-long list of felons linked to the Trump administration.

The President has come under a two-pronged attack in ads by both the Lincoln Project and MeidasTouch. The double whammy was brutal.

The Lincoln Project has the familiar gravely-voiced narrator while there is a new female voice scorning Trump in the MeidasTouch ad. The story of Roger Stone comes under scrutiny from both groups  with The Lincoln Project decrying the irony of Trump’s “law and order” campaign and MiedasTouch looking back at Trump’s pledge to ‘Drain the Swamp.’

The Lincoln Project ad has put Trump’s “law and order candidate” campaign message under a brutal microscope.

The “law and order” slogan has a controversial history in Presidential campaigns. Critics have argued that the wording is an underhand message promising repression of the black community. It has painful echoes given the unrest over the death of George Floyd and the ongoing national calls for justice and racial equality.

The Lincoln Project ad also highlights the hypocrisy of Trump standing beneath the promise of delivering law and order, when he is surrounded by felons in his Administration. His campaign manager, national security advisor, and personal lawyer are all convicted felons.

The MeidasTouch takes the angle of disdainful disappointment at a President’s failure to meet his words. He promised to drain the swamp. Now, as millions of Americans suffer from sickness and job losses, the only people the President is bailing out are his “criminal friends.” Addressing Donald Trump, the ad ends: “You are the swamp”

Even through the anger, Twitter was able to bring the jokes.

Meantime, the MeidasTouch ad hits the golden million

The MeidasTouch ad has the feel of a horror movie trailer. The female narrator ridicules Trump for promising to “drain the swamp” while bailing out his friends. The final half speeds up and meshes footage of Trump’s cronies who have been convicted of felonies, with a sinister-looking alligator in a swamp. It ends: PARDON ME?
