Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has officially announced his running mate: Kamala Harris.
The California senator is a charismatic addition to the Biden ticket, and she has already proven herself as a former state attorney general. Harris is the first African American and Indian American to grace a national ticket.
Although most polls had her leading the pack of other potential running mates, there were some that doubted the choice — especially after their tussles on the campaign trail. Regardless, the Biden-Harris ticket is a strong one — her appeal to different groups will help bolster his supporters. As a source for The Hill says, “She doesn’t have a lot of baggage, and she has relationships on the Hill which could help him as president.”
From Oakland, California, Harris was born to an Indian mother and Jamaican father. She graduated from Howard University before attending law school at the University of California. Her career started in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office but just a few years later, she would become the first woman and the first African American elected as the California attorney general. She joined the U.S. Senate in 2017 where she gained national attention due to her sharp questioning of Brett Kavanaugh.
