The Atlantic first reported the allegations that the Trump administration is considering various scenarios should he lose the election in November. The report quoted Republican Party sources and claimed that the Trump campaign is:

Discussing contingency plans to bypass election results and appoint loyal electors in battleground states where Republicans hold the legislative majority.

The original article pointed out that while America expects electors to be chosen from the popular vote, “nothing in the Constitution says it has to be that way.”

Voter fraud before it happens

The justification for appointing “loyal electors” in those states key to winning the election is being billed as combatting fraud. However, voter fraud is highly unlikely. A recent analysis of mail-in ballots put voter fraud risk at just 0.0025%.

Yet, it is thought the Trump campaign will use the smokescreen of cheating to force these extraordinary powers and appoint 538 electors. Which kind of sounds like cheating.

Legislators pressured to set aside the popular vote

According to the Atlantic, Trump will deliberately stall the vote count and pressure legislators to distrust the popular vote of their own state. The article cited a legal advisor to team Trump who explained:

The state legislatures will say, ‘All right, we’ve been given this constitutional power. We don’t think the results of our own state are accurate, so here’s our slate of electors that we think properly reflect the results of our state.

3/ He’s signaling he’s willing to steal this election if needed. For anyone who wants to justify this, you are also going to need to rewrite your histories to defend the stolen Eastern Bloc elections as well as the reigns of people like Idi Amin, Mobutu, Mugabe, Chavez, etc.

He wants to steal this election. Plain and simple. He has put plans into motion to actualize this desire. Whether that works or not is another matter, but this is his plan. That basic desire is a fundamental threat to the democracy and should be front and center in all discussion

In case this is all sounding too much like a conspiracy theory, or the blurb of a movie about a rigged election in a dictator regime, the President already assured us of this plan himself.

When Trump was asked, “Will you commit to making sure there is a peaceful transferral of power after the election?”

He responded, “We’ll want to have — get rid of the ballots and you’ll have a very — we’ll have a very peaceful — there won’t be a transfer frankly, there’ll be a continuation.”
