Democratic strategist Kaivan Shroff warned on Twitter that Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett spoke at conferences sponsored by a group that “supports making homosexuality a crime in the United States.”

Barrett gave five speeches and was paid for them by the Alliance Defending Freedom, a group recognized by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group. According to the SPLC, the ADF defended “European laws requiring the sterilization of transgender citizens seeking administrative recognition of their preferred gender.”
Shroff wrote on Twitter that Barrett had excused herself from the whole affair, claiming “She claimed not to know all the views of the anti-LGBT hate group — which include support for forced sterilization of trans people.”
But Shroff also noted, “She also never returned or donated the money. She kept it.”
Meanwhile, Chasten Buttigieg, husband to Pete Buttigieg, tweeted, “Just a reminder that overturning #Obergefell (gay marriage) is in the Republican Party’s official platform. Alito and Thomas just signaled their wishes to overturn it and we already know where Barrett stands on the issue. Please vote.”

In 2017, it was revealed that Barrett received anywhere between $1,000 to $3,500 for each talk she gave. In addition, in one court case, Barrett argued that “justices should not be bound by a court precedent that they believe is out of step with the Constitution,” according to the Washington Post.
