The overwhelming majority of climate scientists — over 99 percent —have concluded that humans are the primary cause of climate change. This is one of the central facts about human-caused climate change, and it bears repeating for several reasons.
First, it’s true. The scientific literature is clear on this. Indeed, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences called human-caused climate change a “settled fact” a decade ago. And since then our scientific understanding has only grown stronger.
Second, the ongoing disinformation campaign funded by the fossil fuel industry has left the public with the impression that there is considerable scientific debate on a subject where there isn’t.
When people are informed about the reality of the overwhelming consensus they naturally are more inclined to want to take action, as social science research has shown.
We often feel helpless about what we can do, and it turns out that one simple thing moms can do is to support immediate action by the government to address global warming.
