Why do Democrats always have to ‘fix what Republicans broke’?

Democrats always seem to get the short end of the stick when it is their turn in the White House. Republicans spend their time in the Oval Office running up the national debt and leaving financial messes in their wake.

Trump’s presidency did not break the GOP mold.

Upon his swearing-in, Biden inherited a public health crisis, the aftermath of an attempted coup, a climate emergency, and an economy in rough shape. The Trump era came crashing to a close with “10 million fewer jobs” than it had just a year earlier.

While the Trump administration will undoubtedly live in infamy for many reasons, the destruction of the economy won’t necessarily stick out like a sore thumb. The last four years were pretty much continuing the status quo. A Republican takes over a Democratic president’s economy on the upswing and then smashes it to bits.

Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts and swollen military spending brought the debt-to-GDP ratio to almost 50% by the time his tenure ended. After him, George H. W. Bush pushed things even further bringing the ratio to 62%.

Bill Clinton worked an economic miracle during his two terms only to have it all wiped away when W took over. Then, Barack Obama valiantly cleaned up the George W. Bush’s economic mess just in time for Trump to step in … leaving Biden, another Democrat, to pick up the pieces.
