Despite the crazies that now dominate the Republican party, we are making headway, albeit slowly, on getting Americans back on track. It’s hard not to be distracted by the far-right’s attempt to dominate the airwaves with their misogynistic views and isolationist tendencies, but press on, we must.
Biden’s job is to get this country back to work. As I have mentioned before, this administration needs to create a nationwide infrastructure project. Imagine if millions of Americans across the country could come together to rebuild our aging roads and bridges. Imagine a public service project which provides free higher education in exchange for enrolling in a one to two-year public service initiative where students pledge to work to rebuild our nation.
Getting Americans back to work and encouraging young people to become invested in rebuilding our country from the inside out would quell the tide of the right-wing’s rise. Biden’s infrastructure plan is a start. The plan calls for “$1.3 trillion over ten years, to equip the American middle class to compete and win in the global economy, to move the U.S. to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, and to ensure that cities, towns, and rural areas all across our country share in that growth.” Implementing this plan may be just the jolt we need to get this country up and running again.
Biden is not perfect, but his plan to build back better is at least an idea that all Americans should be able to get behind regardless of one’s political party.
