In a recent CNN interview, Dan Rather talked about truth and why it “still matters” in the age of Trump.

Dan Rather was a guest on a segment called “Reliable Sources” on Sunday. When host Brian Stelter asked if he felt anything had changed after the initial public impeachment hearings, Rather responded that it was “becoming increasingly apparent that truth is closing in.”

He goes on to say the “alternate narrative” spread by the White House and its “allies in Prime Time on Fox” are in a “stand-off with truth.” Rather thinks the events of the last few days show that “facts matter.”

Stelter then brings up one of Rather’s recent tweets:

Rather explains how he views the support around Trump as “cultish” because it is all about Trump and not about the policies. He compares this behavior with the support of past popular presidents like Ronald Reagan, pointing out the key difference: “he stood for something in terms of policy.”

He goes on to say, “Cults generally don’t end well.”
