After Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday evening, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) visibly ripped up her copy of the speech in full view of the cameras.
At the conclusion of the President’s words, the other lawmakers in the room stood and applauded. Pelosi, however, stood and methodically tore the speech in half before tossing it back on the dais. It was the rip heard around the country, and it sparked a Twitter storm both for and against the Speaker’s actions.

Some users immediately started praising Pelosi’s political genius.

Pelosi says she “tore it up” because she couldn’t find any truth in the speech. According to the New York Times, the entire address contained only five truthful statements.
Six things the President said were downright false, but the majority of the speech contained exaggerations, half-truths, misleading statements, and things taken out of context.

One Twitter user pointed out that Pelosi’s tear distracted everyone from yet another garbled word. Mispronunciations are becoming a regular occurrence. Trump probably appreciates having a distraction from this most recent one.

Pelosi wasn’t throwing a tantrum, shredding the speech was a calculated move delivered when it would have the most impact.
“As Trump finished, the final word went to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who pointedly and obviously tore up Trump’s speech for the cameras. Ever since, media has been on fire over her demonstration, which we have to think was precisely her intention. Her action stole all of Trump’s thunder, which will defang his speech as well as infuriate him. As a long-time observer of political leaders, I am in awe of her ability to read and dominate a situation, even situations in which she appears to have a losing hand.”

Didn’t the evening start with Trump snubbing a handshake? It seems a bit unfair to only pick on Pelosi’s actions and gloss over those of the President.

Being forced to listen to a rambling speech full of lies and half-truths would be difficult for anyone. Under the circumstances, many think Pelosi kept her cool by only ripping up the speech.
When Nancy Pelosi said tearing up Trump’s speech was the “courteous thing to do considering the alternative” what she meant was she could have torn him a new asshole instead.

There is a lot of uproar over the tearing apart of a few pieces of paper. Some pointed out that things were a lot quieter when the administration was ripping apart families.
