In an effort to make the company more green, LEGO set a goal to run its facilities on renewable energies by 2022.
They hit their mark three years early, reports Good.
LEGO has been around for more than 85 years, and they rake in around $2 billion in sales annually in the United States alone. With 42 offices around the globe, they are a major influence in the corporate world.
Bali Padda, LEGO Group CEO had this to say, “We work to leave a positive impact on the planet and I am truly excited about the inauguration of the Burbo Bank Extension wind farm.”
To help reach its ambitious goal, LEGO built a 258-megawatt wind turbine that sits on the Irish Sea. To commemorate the achievement, they had a group of LEGO Certified Professionals build a life-size turbine out of 146,000 bricks.
Padda hopes the company’s work will be inspiring to children:
“We see children as our role models and as we take action in reducing our environmental impact as a company, we will also continue to work to inspire children around the world by engaging them in environmental and social issues.”
